Maybe I don't get it but what is Conjuntoislife doing for Conjunto music?

I want to start this discussion because of my love for traditional conjunto music. I think that conjuntoislife is a great website. Martin has done wonders to have a membership of over 1000. But, what is it doing for conjunto music? I see people in here posting videos, songs, pictures, and events. The people in here already love conjunto music. They don't need to be converted. However the millions of people that are not conjunto lovers and some haven't even heard of conjunto music are the one's that need to be converted. 1000 people could do so much for conjunto outside this website. For instance calling non conjunto stations, writing articles to newspaper, contacting polititians demanding they acknowledge our cultural music, etc, etc, etc. most of us are not doing that in here. We are just talking to each other. I do not refer to the musicians because they are desperately trying to get their band noticed. It is them that we should all be working for. It is them that NPCMA struggles to fight for because without them we have nothing. I write this with absolutely no anger just a concern. Give me your opinions to this matter that I write on.

WITH ALL DO RESPECT, MY PERSONAL OPINION ON THIS MATTER IS "DONT HATE....APPRECIATE"
I think this website lets us know we are not alone in the love for conjunto music and it encourages us to share this music with others. In my case West Texas has mostly tejano music but I have introduced conjunto music like Lazaro Perez, Los Dos Gilbertos, Etc., to my friends and taken CD's to Clubs and you would be amazed how some people reacted to conjunto music, they danced and asked where I got this music and from where do they play it. I know the Valley, Corpus, and San Antonio know conjunto along with Houston but here in West Texas it almost new to some. Share your love for conjunto turn them on to this website and you will be surprised how they will learn. Keep it Conjunto Carnal!
VERY GOOD POINT CARLOS! ES TODO COMPADRE!
Thanks, Carlos. You my friend are doing something for Conjunto music outside of just posting in here. I commend you for that. Conjunto music needs more people like you to do exactly what you are doing. Keep up the good work. NPCMA salutes you.

Ron, I don't think that you see my point in writing this discussion. I simply would like to encourage the people in here to take the enthusiasm that is displayed in this website to the outside world. Just like Carlos stated that he was doing. Take care ron.
I SEE WUTCHA MEAN SIR, I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT TAKIN IT TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD, I LIVE IN HUMBLE,TX, AND HERE THERE IS 'NO' TEJANO NOR CONJUNTO SCENE AT ALL! I DO MY OWN THING HERE, REPRESENTIN, I CRUISE WITH MY CONJUNTO JAMMIN ON MY TWO 10'S, TONY DE LA ROSA, HOMETOWN BOYS, AND MUCH MORE, I SIT IN MY BACKYARD AND JAM POLKAS ON MY ACORDEON AND CAN BE HEARD ALL THROUGH THE PARK BEHIND MY HOUSE. AND PPL LIKE IT! THATS WHAT I DO, HERE IN AN AREA WHERE CONJUNTO ALMOST DOESNT EXIST! AND IM PROUD OF IT, THANX FOR YOUR TIME SIR...YOUR DISCUSSION REALLY DOES HAVE A GOOD POINT! AND CARLOS ALSO SURE DOES A GREAT THING OUT THERE TOO! PURO CONJUNTO CARNAL!
I agree that we must export our conjunto music to the outside world. I'm a retired principal and now am back in the classroom as a Spanish teacher. On my own am teaching 8th through 12 graders conjunto music. I teach accordion after school. I am passing the tradition to a younger generation. They in turn have brought in more students that want to learn the accordion. This past week I took one of my students to perform at the awards banquet and to invite other students who might want to learn the accordion next year. The kid did a great job. Parents were amazed at his skills. Btw, I used to record in the 60's for Ideal, Del Valle and El Pato at 15 years of age and my brothers were 10 and 12. Played in Plainview, Floydada, Bovina, Muleshoe, Friona
Hart, Hereford, Dimmit, Littlefield, Lubbock, Ralls, Hale center. Have played in dances with Ruben Vela, Flaco, Esteban Jordan, Little Joe, Sunny. That is how I'm promoting my music, my history and my culture. BTW, I also present at the universities on the history of conjunto music and play a sampling of: redovas, chotises, polkas, valses, huapangos!
Jose, you my friend are doing great things for traditional conjunto music. NPCMA salutes you. We just need more people as yourself to help carry the tradition and culture. If you haven't joined my mailing list at www.npcma.org please do so. We need people like you to help us. Thanks Arturo
On a different note*
ever heard of Pete Morales y su conjunto out of Lubbock? Es mi tio politico. Hermano de mi Madre (que dios la tenga en el cielo).
I sure do. They were very popular in the west Texas area. We played at Pete's Palladium in Plainview with Flaco Jimenez. Pete used to have a restaurant right in front of the Court House. He contracted us to play there in 1967. I don't know if you are familiar or ever heard of La Estrellita ballroom, in Dimmit,Tx. We played there with Los Guadalupanos de Joey Lopez from San Antonio y Los Fabulosos Cuatro that same year. The famous radio announcer out of Muleshoe was Noe Escamilla. Cruz Alvarado out of Tulia. Those were the great times. If you go to my pagina here, you can listen to 4 of my recordings with Del Valle Records.
Hola Carlos,
I like you have been trying to promote dance halls, bars, and clubs here in Austin to "conjunto Music". Is it becasue of us wearing the Stacy's, Tapitas?. Do they think we're pachucos?.... Maybe they beleive they have to be one, quien sabe? I have distributed many of my home made CD's to the bars. I have gradually seen the homies get up and dance. You see their feet stomping at the floor, some are even playing an imaginary Squeez Box. They ask about the music and ofcourse I introduce them to conjuntoislife.com The Dj's love the music. As a matter of fact one Dj calls out puro pinche conjunto as the songs are being played. Wonder where he got that from?.. Orale, I'm with you carnal. We make a difference. Check out "puretejanoradio.com You are gonna be surprised of what they are starting to play.
Puro Pinche Conjunto

Well in the DIRTY BAY (Houston,Baytown,Pasadena,ect..) We have no R-Station to listen to. This Site allows us to listen to the newest and find out where Bands are playing at. It is our Responsibility to take our kids to concerts or pay dances to learn our culture.
Once again it starts at HOME. No web page can control the thoughts of our young.(This page allows you to know where to see a concert) Note: I went to a Quince and the Grandfather of the Quince was playing with his conjunto band. After playing for an hour his son (the quince's father) started yelling for the DJ. It was a rather shameful thing to do. To shut down the band so Rap music could be played. The son being of a mature age should have allowed longer time for the young ones to " LOOK, LISTEN, AND LEARN "! They knew every rap line dance and butt humping song. Sad but true, could not taquachito, polka, and much less a chotiz. The CORE of CONJUNTO is your home!
